Entry Description
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (Oct. 21, 2013) - Sims-Lohman, Inc. a granite countertop manufacturer and cabinet distributor, announced plans today to expand its operations here, creating up to 32 new jobs by 2015.

The Cincinnati-headquartered company plans to invest $2 million to purchase and equip a 57,000 square-foot facility located at 7113 Mayflower Park Drive in Zionsville. The new facility, which will be fully operational this month, will include a showroom for the company's product lines as well as stone fabrication production space.

"Our growing economy makes Indiana the ideal place for companies serving the construction industry to grow," said Eric Doden, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. "With our low-tax rates and pro-growth business environment, companies like Sims-Lohman are operating in a market that demonstrates why Indiana is a state that works for business."

Sims-Lohman, which currently has 22 full-time employees in Zionsville, has already begun hiring additional fabricators, installers and sales associates. Interested applicants can learn more by picking up an application at the Zionsville facility, emailing a resume to hresources@sims-lohman.com or completing an application at Lebanon, Ind.'s WorkOne office.

"Our company is enjoying sizable sales growth in central Indiana," said John Beiersdorfer, president of Sims-Lohman. "We are excited to have this opportunity to grow with our professional customers, who are experiencing increasing demand compared to recent years. This growth gives us expanded opportunities to take full advantage of the skilled workforce available in Indiana."

Founded in 1971 in Cincinnati, Sims-Lohman manufactures granite countertops and distributes cabinets. The company, which operates additional facilities in Lafayette and across Ohio, works with more than 100 varieties of granite, quartz, marble and soapstone. Producing more than 10,000 granite countertop jobs annually, Sims-Lohman has experienced more than 25 percent sales growth per year since 2009.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Sims-Lohman, Inc. up to $150,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The town of Zionsville supports this project at the request of the Boone County Economic Development Corporation.

"This is a wonderful announcement," said Jeff Papa, president of the Zionsville Town Council. "Having a great company like Sims-Lohman add new jobs and grow its facility here is outstanding."

Companies like Sims-Lohman are taking advantage of central Indiana's growing market for new construction projects. Building permits issued for single family homes increased 23 percent in the last year for the nine-county Indianapolis region, with more than 3,900 permits issued year to date. According to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, an economic impact exceeding $704 million in local income so far this year has been generated directly from home construction.

About IEDC
Created in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Mike Pence. Victor Smith serves as the Indiana Secretary of Commerce and Eric Doden is the president of the IEDC.

The IEDC oversees programs enacted by the General Assembly including tax credits, workforce training grants and public infrastructure assistance. All tax credits are performance-based. Therefore, companies must first invest in Indiana through job creation or capital investment before incentives are paid. A company who does not meet its full projections only receives a percentage of the incentives proportional to its actual investment. For more information about IEDC, visit www.iedc.in.gov.
