Contractor Shifting Traffic on US 31 Ramps to I-465

Overnight Work to Prepare for Barrier Wall Installation

CARMEL, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors E&B Paving and Gradex plan overnight (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) traffic restrictions this week at the north side U.S. 31/Meridian Street ramps to eastbound I-465.

On Monday, Oct. 14, contractors plan to shift traffic to prepare for the installation of temporary concrete barrier wall on the northbound and southbound U.S. 31/Meridian Street ramps to eastbound I-465. The ramps will remain open and will be narrowed to 11 feet to allow room for the wall installation, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The $141 million contract to upgrade U.S. 31 to freeway standards includes interchange improvements at I-465 and new roundabout interchanges at 106th, 116th, 131st and 136th streets expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2015. Contractors are beginning preliminary work for the construction of two new flyover ramps from southbound U.S. 31 to eastbound I-465 and eastbound I-465 to northbound U.S. 31.

Nightly single-lane restrictions are expected to continue on U.S. 31 between I-465 and Old Meridian Street (between 116th Street and West Carmel Drive) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The restrictions will repeat each night as contractors work to temporarily widen the existing highway in preparation for a traffic shift expected later this month.
