Entry Description
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Mike Karickhoff (R-Kokomo) was presented with the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns’ (IACT) Legislator of the Year Award on Sunday for his assistance with municipal issues during the 2013 legislative session.

“This recognition is appreciated,” said Rep. Karickhoff. “IACT’s dedication to promoting solid public policy and efficiency is good for Hoosiers across the state. Strong, vibrant cities are the key to state-wide success. Working with IACT is always a positive experience, and I look forward to collaborating with them during the upcoming session to continue moving Indiana forward.”
The Legislator of the Year Award was presented by IACT Board Member and Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight and IACT Executive Director Matt Greller during the opening business session of the 2013 IACT Annual Conference & Exhibition at the J.W. Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.

“Whether advocating for more municipal input into local tax options, more equitable funding options for emergency 911 call centers, or reasonable annexation policies, Representative Karickhoff understands the issues that municipal governments are faced with,” said Goodnight.

According to IACT, the organization’s Board of Directors voted on the award at a May board meeting. This is the third year for the Legislator of the Year award.  The 2012 award was given to co-recipients Speaker of the House Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) and Senate Majority Floor Leader Brandt Hershman (R-Buck Creek).

Founded in 1891, IACT is one of the oldest state municipal organizations in the country, with 470 cities and towns as members. IACT advocates for municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good government through education, training and leadership.

State Rep. Mike Karickhoff serves on the Ways and Means Committee and the Natural Resources Committee.  He is also the vice-chair of the Indiana Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Rep. Karickhoff represents portions of Howard and Grant counties, most of the city of Kokomo and the towns of Swayzee and Greentown.
