Entry Description

Lake County- An Delphi man fell asleep driving his car this afternoon, causing him to go off the roadway, hit a guardrail, slam into the concrete bridge abutment, flipping his car over onto its passenger side then catching on fire.

Preliminary investigation by Senior Trooper Nathan Sherer revealed that at approximately 12:26 p.m., this Thursday, October 03, 2013, afternoon, an Oldsmobile Bravada was north bound on I-65 at the 238 mile marker (this is two miles south of the Lowell exit) when the driver, Lukus Hunt, 20 of Delphi, Indiana fell asleep. The Oldsmobile went off the road to the left and hit the guard rail, it then hit the concrete bridge abutment, flipping the Bravada onto its passenger side then catching on fire.

The passenger, Thomas Storey, 22 of West Lafayette, Indiana was able to get himself out of the vehicle. Hunt was removed by Good Samaritans who stopped at the scene.

Hunt and Storey were taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point. Hunt sustained broken bones and minor burns. Storey complained of body pain.

All lanes north bound were closed for less than an hour for removal of the injured, vehicle and clean-up of the roadway.
