Entry Description

Brookston-Today at approximately 12:59 p.m, Indiana State Police received information from White County Sheriff’s Department that a bank robbery was in progress at the Farmer’s State Bank located at 309 South Prairie Street in Brookston, IN.

Further information was received that a suspect vehicle, a light colored van or SUV was seen leaving the area with the two male suspects in the vehicle. Trooper Darrick Scott of the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post was traveling northbound on State Road 43 near the White/Tippecanoe County line when he spotted a vehicle matching the description with two males in the vehicle and a female driving. Trooper Scott went to turn around on the vehicle to follow until other officers could help to make the stop. The vehicle, a gray 1999 Chevrolet Suburban continued southbound on SR 43. Trooper Scott attempted to stop the vehicle but it continued as other troopers, Indiana Conservation Officers and Tippecanoe County Deputies attempted to stop the Suburban.

The vehicle failed to stop and was pursued south on SR 43 when it turned east onto County Road 800 North in Tippecanoe County. The Suburban continued to travel on the Tippecanoe County roads trying to elude officers when the Suburban ended up coming out on Old SR 25 at CR 450 North in Tippecanoe County and headed south towards Lafayette. As the Suburban headed south on Old SR 25, the suspects tossed money out of the vehicle. A trooper used his vehicle to stop the pursuit before it headed into a congested area at the roundabout on Old SR 25 and SR 25 which is just north of I-65 at the SR 25 exit near the east edge of Lafayette..

The two male suspects fled on foot with officers from the three departments in chase. The female driver, later identified as Omika D. Thurman, 43 years old from Merrillville, IN was taken into custody by officers at the scene. The two male suspects went in different directions. One suspect, later identified as Jason Eli Roar, 34 years old from Indianapolis, was apprehended in the woods north of the roundabout. The other suspect, Derek D. Core, 29 years old from Bunker Hill, IN was apprehended in the construction area south of the roundabout.

All three suspects are being charged with Robbery a Class C Felony and Resisting Law enforcement a Class D Felony. Other charges may be pending as Robert Guy; the White County Prosecutor, reviews the reports. As of this time, it has not been determined if there was a weapon involved. The investigation is continuing.

Assisting the Indiana State Police was the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division, the Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigators, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, White County Sheriff’s Department and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department.
