Start Date: 10/21/2012Start Time: 5:30 PM
Entry Description
House Republicans now accepting intern applications for 2013 legislative session

STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Sue Ellspermann (R-Ferdinand) is pleased to announce that the 2013 House Republican Internship Program is now accepting applications. The program is open to undergraduate and graduates students interested in working for the House of Representatives at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

“Students with an interest in government or those looking to gain professional work experience should consider applying for the internship,” said Rep. Ellspermann. “The program provides interns with hands-on and unique experiences of how the legislative process works in Indiana.”

Applicants from all academic majors are accepted. Interns will be compensated with a $700 bi-weekly stipend and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 Verizon scholarship. The scholarship can be applied toward educational expenses for the student’s current or future undergraduate or graduate studies.

The internship will be for the entire 2013 legislative session, which begins in January and ends in April. It is a full-time internship, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Statehouse in Indianapolis.

Individuals interested in the internship program may consider four different concentrations when applying: member services, media, computer/technology and policy/fiscal. For a detailed description of each concentration and additional information concerning the internship program, please visit http://www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans/intern.html.  />
The Indiana House Republicans will accept applications for the internship program until October 31. Applications are currently being accepted online at the website listed above.

Interviews will be conducted as applications are received. Applicants are encouraged to work with their school in order to obtain academic credit for the internship – most colleges and universities in Indiana offer course credit.

“Not only do interns get a firsthand experience with public service and a behind-the-scenes look at how Indiana’s government works, but they also can network and add value to their resumes before entering the workforce,” said Rep. Ellspermann. “This is an invaluable experience and I encourage those interested to apply.”
