[INDOT] US 31 Lane Improvements to I-465

INDOT Improving Lanes

From US 31 to I-465

CARMEL, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to modify traffic lanes on southbound US 31 to improve traffic flow to I-465.

 

INDOT will be adding a lane for traffic on southbound US 31 to access I-465.  After the changes are in place, the entrance ramps to eastbound and westbound I-465 will each have a designated access lane south of 103rd Street.  To allow for the additional lane, INDOT will change signs and pavement markings in the area.

 

  • One southbound right through lane of US 31 will be restriped to become a transition lane to eastbound I-465.  The existing transition lane will become solely for access to westbound I-465.
  • The southbound US 31 designated right turn lane to westbound 103rd Street will be changed to allow right turns and through traffic.
  • The painted island on the southwest corner of the intersection will be removed to allow traffic on southbound US 31 to cross straight through the intersection.

 

INDOT crews will begin implementing the changes at 9 p.m. on Monday, October 22.  The changes are expected to take at least two nights to complete.  Some lane restrictions will be necessary as the changes are being made, but the ramps to I-465 will remain open.  Traffic will be directed around the work site.  All lane restrictions will end before 5 a.m.
