BOAH Announces Key Leadership Changes

INDIANAPOLIS (23 October 2012)—State Veterinarian Bret D. Marsh, DVM has announced changes to key staff positions within the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH).
Doug Metcalf, BOAH Chief of Staff, has been named Director of the Dairy Division. After a successful military career, Metcalf has served as Chief of Staff for BOAH for 12 years. Metcalf’s proven leadership abilities and insights from a decade of working with the division will be an asset to the state’s dairy inspection program. He has been serving as interim Dairy Director since September.
Gary Haynes, JD will become BOAH Chief of Staff. Haynes has been with the agency for 16 years as Director of Legal Affairs and Enforcement, serving as general counsel. Haynes’ history with BOAH will mean a smooth transition to the new position, with his extensive understanding of the issues important to the agency.
Joining BOAH as Director of Legal Affairs and Enforcement will be Sarah Simpson, JD. Simpson comes to BOAH from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), where she is currently serving as Director of Agricultural Policy. Simpson’s work at ISDA will bring a new, broader perspective to BOAH.
“These are all essential positions within the Board of Animal Health,” said Marsh. “I’m pleased that we’ve identified three talented and experienced leaders who can bring a fresh viewpoint and ideas to each of these areas that will benefit the agency, the board and the state.”
The internal position shifts are effective as of today. Simpson will be joining BOAH on Oct. 29.
