Entry Description Get spooked and thrilled at Indiana Dunes State Park, as “Howl”oween haunts the dunes, Oct. 27.
“Howl” oween offers live owl encounters, trick-or-treating, a night hike, a hayride and more.
Activities kick off at 10 a.m. with an owl program at the nature center auditorium.
The campground will host trick-or-treating and a campsite decorating contest. Judging is from 4-7 p.m.
The night picks up with spooky hikes into the dunes and hayrides through the campgrounds. Registration is required for each hike, as spaces are limited, and children younger than 12 must bring a parent. Hikers must sign up at the nature center Saturday morning.
Hayride tickets will be sold at the campground gate throughout the day. Tickets cost $2 a person. Children age 2 and younger are free.
Park staff will be banding saw-whet owls at the nature center at 8 p.m. Banding is weather dependent. Visitors should ask ahead at the nature center for updates.
Except for hayrides, all activities are free; however, the standard entrance fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $10 per out-of-state vehicle will be charged. Programming is made possible with support from the Friends of Indiana Dunes group.
For more information, call (219) 926-1390.
