Entry Description

State Sen. Jim Banks (R-Columbia City) issued the following statement today congratulating Indiana Wesleyan University President Dr. Henry Smith on his retirement:

STATEHOUSE (Oct. 9, 2012) — “Dr. Smith has been an incredible asset to Indiana Wesleyan University, serving as president for the past nine years.

“Dr. Smith’s efforts account for many accomplishments and developments, both at the university and in Indiana’s higher education system overall. During his term, IWU grew to be the largest independent university in the state, setting the bar for other schools to follow. I congratulate him on his successful years of service and wish him the best of luck during the next chapter of his life.”

Indiana Wesleyan University is an evangelical Christian comprehensive university of The Wesleyan Church.  The university recently issued a statement announcing Dr. Henry Smith’s retirement. Smith will retire as president on June 30, 2013, and become chancellor of the university on July 1, 2013. He will serve as chancellor until December 31, 2015.
