Entry Description

STATEHOUSE – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced today that the Indiana House Republicans are losing a key member of their long-time staff, Julie Halbig. Halbig served as the Speaker’s Chief of Staff, and will now be joining the Government Relations practice group at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.

“Julie has been a key member of our team since 1998, when she was first hired as a Legislative Assistant. Since then she has held numerous staff positions including Policy Director and Chief Counsel to the Caucus,” said Speaker Bosma. “In 2008, I appointed Julie as my Chief of Staff, and she has done an absolutely wonderful job.  She has been an admirable public servant and will certainly be missed.”

The Speaker announced the appointment of Indianapolis attorney Lesley Crane as the Speaker’s new Chief of Staff. Crane has served as the Chief Counsel to the Republican Caucus for the past six years. Prior to that, she was in private practice at Krieg DeVault LLP.  Ms. Crane is a graduate of the IU-Indianapolis School of Law as well as Butler University, where she holds degrees in Political Science and Spanish.

“We did not have to look far for a new Chief of Staff,” said Speaker Bosma. “Our professional staff is incredibly talented, and I didn’t think twice about promoting from within.”

Tyler Campbell, the House Republican Policy Director, will assume the role of Deputy Chief of Staff and will continue as the Caucus Policy Director. Tyler has served on the House Republican staff since 2006. He graduated from IU-Indianapolis Law School in 2011 and is a member of the Indiana Bar.

Finally, filling the Chief Counsel position will be Jill Carnell who started as a legal intern for the Senate Majority Caucus in 2005. She is also a graduate of IU-Indianapolis School of Law and served as the Deputy Majority Counsel in the Senate during the 2006 and 2007 sessions. Carnell has served as a session attorney to the House Republican caucus in 2011 and 2012.

“With every transition comes new opportunities for growth and improvement. It is a great privilege to see members of our staff begin their careers in the House Republican Caucus and grow into leadership roles in both the public and private sector,” said Speaker Bosma.
