INDOT Awards State Road 46 Bridge Repair Contract

George R. Harvey & Son, Inc. submitted winning bid

 

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded the contract for expedited repairs for the closed State Road 46 (S.R. 46) Bridge over the Eel River.  George R. Harvey & Son, Inc. from Danville, IN submitted the lowest bid, offering to complete the work for $274,033.

 

Construction is expected to begin by the first of October.  Based upon the amount of repairs needed, INDOT’s construction engineers estimate the bridge can be safely reopened to traffic in late October.

 

The bridge on S.R. 46 was closed July 31 after structural engineers retained by INDOT recommended closing the bridge after identifying more corrosion in the structural steel than was previously documented.  For the safety of the motoring public it was determined the bridge should be closed.

 

The detour follows S.R. 46 east to State Road 246 west to State Road 59 north and back to S.R. 46.  Traffic traveling in the opposite direction will use the same detour in reverse.
