[INDOT] Public hearing regarding US 33 road reconstruction in Goshen, Elkhart County

Entry Description

The Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Goshen High School Auditorium, 401 Lincolnway East, located in Goshen, Indiana 46526.  Doors will open at 5:30pm for an informal Open House session with the formal Public Hearing beginning at 6:00pm.

 

The purpose of the public hearing is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on the proposed US 33 (Pike Street) reconstruction project from the Elkhart River Bridge to 3rd Street in the City of Goshen. The project proposes an added center turn lane, pavement reconstruction, added left turn lane at Second Street, concrete curb and gutter, sidewalks, signal improvements, storm sewer collection, along with driveway and approach work.  The total project length is 0.2 mile. Construction of the project would require approximately 1.5 acres of new permanent right-of-way.  Eleven parcels occupied by residential buildings and one parcel occupied by a business may be relocated due to the elimination of access leading to landlocked properties.

         

All comments collected before, during and for a period of two (2) weeks after the hearing will be evaluated and addressed in the final environmental document.  The preliminary plans will be available for anyone interested in talking to the engineers about the project before and after the formal presentation.  Please note conversations are not part of the official record. .  Public statements for the record will be taken after the presentation.  Individuals interested in participating in the public statement session may sign the speaker’s schedule prior to the presentation.  The tentative timetables for right-of-way acqui­sition and construction will be discussed during the formal presentation. 

 

With advance notice INDOT can make special accommodations for persons with disabilities and/or limited English speaking ability (Spanish interpreters will be available), and persons needing auxiliary aids or services of interpreters, signers, readers, or large print.  If special accommodations are needed please call the Public Hearings office at (317) 232-6601, by Monday, August 18, 2014.
