[DNR] Korean War weekend coming to Fort Harrison SP, July 12-13

Entry Description

A special exhibit will honor Korean War veterans at the Museum of 20th Century Warfare in Fort Harrison State Park on Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13.

The museum and the Korean War exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

There also will be a lecture explaining Task Force Smith at the park’s visitors center on Sunday, from 2 to 3 p.m.  Task Force Smith fought North Korea in July 1950 during the opening days of the war. Almost half of Task Force Smith was lost was lost in action between July 2 and July 6, 1950.

What is now the park was once the Fort Harrison Military Reservation, and it played a large role in readying Army soldiers for the Korean War.

 The program is free after paying the normal gate fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle.

Fort Harrison State Park is at the corner of 59th Street and Post Road in greater Indianapolis. The Museum of 20th Century Warfare is in Building 711 in Fort Harrison State Park and is open Thursdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visiting the museum is free.
