VINCENNES, Ind. (July 15, 2014)The Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) announced today Melanie Flory has been appointed regional manager. Flory will oversee region 16, consisting of Knox, Gibson, Pike, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties. In her new role she will provide broad oversight and supervision for the six DCS county offices within the region. In addition, she will serve as a field representative of DCS’ central office in Indianapolis. She’ll also communicate local office needs to the central office. Other duties include supervising the directors of the six county offices while also developing and administering budgets.

“Melanie has a strong child welfare background and we’re pleased to have her take the reins for the region 16 counties in southwest Indiana,” said Jane Bisbee, DCS’ Deputy Director of Field Operations. “Her practical job experience as a family case manager, regional foster care specialist and local office director will be invaluable to her as she continues to strengthen families in the counties she serves.”

She was also involved with Healthy Families, a home-visiting program designed to work with overburdened families who are at-risk for adverse childhood experiences, including child maltreatment.

In 2006 she joined the Knox County office of DCS in Vincennes and worked as a family case manager. Beginning in 2010, she recruited and trained foster parents as a regional foster care specialist. She was promoted to director of the Knox County DCS office in 2011 and held that position until her appointment as regional manager.

Flory was born and grew up in Vincennes. She has a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University and also a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University.

Her office is located in the Knox County DCS building, 1050 Washington Avenue in Vincennes. The Gibson County DCS office is at 321 S. 5th Avenue in Princeton; Pike County’s at 2105 E. Main Street in Petersburg; Posey County is at 1262 Main Street in Mt. Vernon; Vanderburgh County at 100 E.
