[ISP] Car Jacking Ends In An Arrest
Start Date: 6/28/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 6/28/2014
Entry Description

Porter County-Today at approximately 5:35 a.m, Indiana State Police at Lowell received a 911 call reference a carjacking that started just inside the Illinois line east bound on I-80 and ended up on I-94 at the 23 mm with a female suspect in custody.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Gary Runde has revealed that a silver 2005 Suburban driven by Alan M. Grudnowski from Milwaukee, WI was eastbound on I-80 near the 162 mm in IL when a beige 2006 Chevrolet van driven by Larona L. Green, 32 from Chicago, IL ran into the rear of the suburban. When both vehicles came to rest, Grudnowski went to check on the driver of the van. As he was at the van, Green had exited her vehicle and climbed in the suburban and left the scene eastbound on I-80 entering IN.

Grudnowski notified the Indiana State Police at Lowell that his car had been taken from the crash scene and was heading into IN with his 13 year old son in the front seat. Grudnowski advised us his son had a cell phone and he was able to provide landmarks while Green was driving. Major Jerry Williams was on duty near the 23 mm on I-94 where he was able to locate the car and stop the vehicle. Several other state police units arrived and took Green into custody. The 13 year old child was uninjured.

Green was taken to Porter County Jail and charged with O.W.I. (tested .119 B.A.C.), possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal confinement. Other charges in IL are pending. Assisting at the scene were units from the Lowell Post, Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Units, Illinois State Police and Porter County Sheriff’s Department. The investigation is continuing.

For information on the crash and charges in IL, contact the Illinois State Police.
