I-70 Drainage Installation Continues in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan to restrict eastbound Interstate 70 to one lane during overnight hours next week while installing drainage pipe in the roadway approaching State Road 3 (New Castle Exit 123).

Beginning at approximately 8 p.m. Monday, crews will restrict the right shoulder and right lane of eastbound I-70 between mile markers 119 and 123. Contractors plan to end restrictions by 7 a.m. The restriction is expected to repeat, weather permitting, each night through Friday morning.

This year, E & B Paving, the INDOT contractor for the $7.7 million project, will repair and resurface a 7-mile section of I-70 between State Road 109 and State Road 3. All traffic lanes in both directions are included in the contract. All lane restrictions are expected to take place during weeknights and weekends. Additional highway work zones and lane restrictions can be expected on I-70 in Hancock and Wayne counties. For information on INDOT work zones and highway restrictions, go to trafficwise.in.gov or call toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623).

Motorists are urged to practice safe driving habits, especially in and around work zones. Follow speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and avoid all distractions—especially cell phones. The Indiana Work Zone Safety Law sets steep penalties for driving infractions within highway work zones. INDOT partners with the Indiana State Police to provide increased patrols and promote public safety in work zones. For more information on work zone safety, go to workzonesafety.in.gov.

Motorists, residents and businesses are encouraged to subscribe to INDOT email updates for Henry County here. Updates are also available by liking the Indiana Department of Transportation East Central Facebook page and by following @INDOT_ECentral on Twitter.
