[INDOT - East Central] Crews Replacing Reflective Markers on I-70 (Hancock County)

Entry Description

Crews Replacing Reflective Markers on I-70

HANCOCK COUNTY – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan lane restrictions on Interstate 70 early Monday morning to replace snowplowable reflective pavement markers east of State Road 9 (Greenfield Exit 104).

Crews plan to replace the snowplowable reflective pavement markers on a four-mile section of I-70 starting Monday, June 23 at 12 a.m. (midnight). Crews will restrict the left lane of both eastbound and westbound I-70. Work is dependent on favorable weather and is expected to be complete by 6 a.m. the same morning.

The pavement markers are a safety device used on roads to enhance visibility and delineation by reflecting an automobile’s headlights. Markers are embedded into the pavement and have a smooth housing that minimizes contact with snow plow blades. The color of the reflectors typically matches the yellow and white painted stripes on the roadway. Blue reflectors are also commonly used to identify locations of fire hydrants.

Motorists are urged to practice safe driving habits, especially in and around work zones. Follow speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and avoid all distractions—especially cell phones. The Indiana Work Zone Safety Law sets steep penalties for driving infractions within highway work zones. INDOT partners with the Indiana State Police to provide increased patrols and promote public safety in work zones. For more information on work zone safety, go to
