I-70 Restrictions This Weekend in Hancock County

HANCOCK COUNTY – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan to close the right lane of eastbound Interstate 70 Friday night for shoulder work. Crews will close the lane from mile marker 97 (east of Mt. Comfort Road Exit 96) to mile marker 100 beginning at 9 p.m. and expect to reopen before 6 a.m. Saturday.

The right lane of westbound I-70 will be closed Sunday night while workers remove reflective pavement markers and pave. Crews will close the lane from State Road 9 (Exit 104) to mile marker 101 beginning at 9 p.m. and plan to reopen by 6 a.m. Monday.

Milestone Contractors, the INDOT contractor for the $15.2 million project, is currently repairing or replacing pavement on the westbound side of I-70 between State Road 9 (Exit 104 to Greenfield) and Mt. Comfort Road (Exit 96). The left lane of westbound I-70 is diverted across the median to share the eastbound side of the interstate. Temporary concrete barrier separates opposing directions of traffic.

The temporary traffic configuration is very similar to the work zone that was in place last year when Milestone repaired the eastbound side of the highway. All lane restrictions are expected to take place during off-peak traffic periods, weeknights between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and on weekends. The project is on schedule to be complete this summer.

Motorists are urged to always comply with work zone speed limits, maintain safe distances from other vehicles and avoid distractions to improve safety for both highway workers and motorists. INDOT partners with the Indiana State Police to provide increased work zones patrols and promote public safety.
