[ISP] Local Trooper Receives Award for Service

Jefferson County: Yesterday afternoon Trooper Nate Adams received a local award from the City of Madison, his home town. Tpr. Adams was named the recipient of the John Menke Award and was the second recipient to receive the award. John Menke was a native son to Madison and was killed in action in Iraq in 2008 and this award was established by the City of Madison to perpetuate his memory and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our military to remain a free nation.

The primary requirement for the award is one must have served in the military. Among the accomplishments named on the award, Tpr. Adams served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1996 to 2003 and was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a marine, Tpr. Adams was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, two Navy Achievement Medals, the Good Conduct Medal, and a third award as a Rifle Expert. In addition, Tpr. Adams served as a police officer for the Madison Police Department from 2003 to 2006 when he entered the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. Since becoming a trooper, Tpr. Adams was named the Versailles District Trooper of the Year in 2008, he was named by the Madison V.F.W. as the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in 2010 and has served in a variety of additional roles with Indiana State Police to include ISP Academy Counselor, ISP Honor Guard, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Field Training Officer, Tactical Intervention Platoon, Background Investigator, Field Sobriety Test Instructor, State Police Youth Camp Director, is a Firearms Proficiency Expert, and Security Advisor to the Madison Heritage Trail.

The proclamation was signed by the Honorable Damon L. Welch, Mayor of the City of Madison.
