[ISP] Late Night Pursuit Ends with Barricaded Suspect and Arrest
Start Date: 5/15/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 5/15/2014
Entry Description

Vigo County—This morning at 00:24, Indiana State Police Troopers Ted Robertson and David Petrowski attempted to stop a red and silver 1981 Ford F150 pickup for disregarding a stop sign at Vigo Drive and Carlisle Street in southern Vigo County. The suspect truck traveled through a local convenience mart as the troopers activated their emergency lights and siren. The pickup failed to stop and turned south on US 41 still refusing to stop for the emergency lights and siren. The pickup turned east onto Woodsmall Drive where it continued east through Vigo County and into Clay County with the suspect vehicle periodically “blacking out” the vehicle lights. Troopers lost sight of the vehicle near Clay County roads 100 South and 200 West. The entire pursuit lasted sixteen minutes with maximum speed of approximately 80 miles-per-hour.

A short time later, Clay County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect vehicle abandoned in afarm field near CR 200W and SR 46. Minutes later, a nearby farmer reported his 1993 Ford F150 pickup truck stolen from his residence. During the mid-morning hours today, the farmer’s stolen pickup was found near the suspect’s home at Washington Street and South 11th. Locating the stolen truck ultimately led Terre Haute Police, Clay County Sheriff’s deputies, and Indiana State Police troopers and detectives to the suspect’s home.

Then just before 11:00 a.m., the suspect was found at his residence and refused to comply with demands by officers to surrender. After nearly one and one-half hours negotiating with members of the THPD Negotiators Unit, the suspect surrendered without incident to members of the THPD SWAT unit. The male suspect was then put in custody of troopers and transported to the Vigo County Jail.

Arrested: Tyler Wayne Fagin, age 36, of 1329 South 11th Street, Terre Haute, IN.

Charges: Resisting Law Enforcement, D felony
Receiving Stolen Auto Parts, D felony
Reckless Driving, B misdemeanor

Additional charges may be pending in Clay County.

Agencies participating in the event were Indiana State Police troopers, Indiana State Police detectives, Terre Haute Police Officers, Terre Haute PD SWAT members, Terre Haute PD Negotiators, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office.
