[ISP] Lafayette District Welcomes Three New Troopers

Lafayette, IN-Three new troopers reported for duty today at the Indiana State Police Post in Lafayette. They are three of 47 new troopers reporting to their districts of assignment following graduation from the 73rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy which took place on Friday, May 1st.

On November 10, 2013 these three men began 25 weeks of intense training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield. During the training period the recruits received approximately 600 hours of classroom instructions as well as nearly 300 hours of hands-on practical and scenario based training exercises.

Governor Mike Pence and Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter recognized the accomplishments of the class and following the keynote address by Governor Pence, Chief Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court, the Honorable Brent E. Dickson administered the oath of office to the graduates.

Lafayette’s newest troopers are:

Probationary Trooper David R. Vido grew up in Lake County and graduated from Griffith High School in 2010. He attended Ball State University before entering into the academy last fall. Vido will be assigned to the south zone which encompasses Benton, Warren, Fountain and Montgomery Counties. Vido resides in Tippecanoe County.

Probationary Trooper Dexter Whitten grew up in Tippecanoe County and attended Jefferson High School in Lafayette. After receiving his G.E.D, Whitten attended Ivy-Tech College in Lafayette before joining the Army National Guard in 2008. He will be patrolling the north zone which encompasses White, Carroll, Clinton and Tippecanoe Counties. Whitten resides in West Lafayette.

Probationary Trooper Jared K. McQueary was born in Vigo County but grew up in the Lafayette area. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 2008 and received an Associate Degree from Ivy-Tech Community College in 2011. McQueary will be assigned to the North Zone. McQueary and his family reside in Tippecanoe County.

The new troopers will put their recruit academy training to work in the field as they begin 12 weeks of field training where they will be paired with experienced troopers specially trained to serve as Field Training Officers. Upon successful completion of the field training program, they will be issued their own police cars and begin solo patrol Responsibilities.
