[ISP] Blown Tire Causes Rollover Crash
Start Date: 5/1/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 5/1/2014
Entry Description
Clinton County-Today at approximately 6:45 p.m. on I-65 southbound near the 153 mile marker (five miles south of the SR 28 exit), a blown tire causes a pickup truck to roll pinning the driver inside.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean Schaefer has revealed that a red 1997 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Andrew M. Boyd, 50 from Gulfport, LA, was traveling southbound in the left lane on the interstate when his left rear tire blew out. The blowout caused Boyd to lose control of the pickup, go into the grassy median where it rolled once and then came to rest on its top. Boyd was pinned in the pickup and had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Perry Township Fire Department. He was then transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he was treated for complaint of pain. Boyd was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

“This is another example of where seatbelts appeared to keep the injuries to a minimum” Trooper Schaefer explained. “If he would not have been wearing his seatbelt, he could have been thrown from the vehicle and his injuries could have possibly been much worse!”

The interstate both north and southbound was slowed due to cleanup and removal of the vehicle for about 90 minutes. Also assisting at the scene was the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and the Clinton County EMS.
