[ISP] Suspicious Activity and an Alert Trooper Results in Arrest
Start Date: 4/23/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/23/2014
Entry Description

Jackson County: Yesterday evening just after 9:30 p.m. Trooper Seth Davidson was patrolling on S.R. 250 in Jackson County when he observed two vehicles parked on C.R. 300S off S.R. 250. That particular part of Jackson County is very rural with no homes nearby which caused Tpr. Davidson to suspect possibly criminal activity. Tpr. Davidson turned onto C.R. 300S and as he approached the two vehicles one of them, a Dodge Ram pickup turned on its lights and pulled away. As Tpr. Davidson followed the Dodge Ram he noticed the license plates on the vehicle had expired in February of this year. Tpr. Davidson made a traffic stop and identified the driver as 30 year old Joseph Keith Evans of Seymour. A routine check of Evans’ driver’s license indiciated he was suspended and in addition to the expired plates on the pickup, the registration was false. As part of the investigation, Tpr. Davidson conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered a large amount of Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen Duke Energy electric meter. Evans was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jackson County Jail where he stands charged with Possession of Methamphetamine-Over 3 grams (Class C Felony), Possession of Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor), and Possession of Stolen Property (Class D Felony).

Tpr. Davidson commented, “I would encourage all citizens to report suspicious vehicles as they often result in drug arrests.”
