U.S. 31 & I-465 Ramp Closure Begins Friday

Lane Restrictions Near 96th Street

CARMEL – Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan to close the northbound U.S. 31 loop ramp to westbound I-465 for up to 30 days beginning Friday, April 25. Ramp traffic will be detoured to make a left turn and merge with the southbound U.S. 31 ramp to westbound I-465.

To allow for the protected left turn, crews activated a temporary signal last week to stop traffic on southbound U.S. 31, specifically traffic entering the eastbound and westbound I-465 ramps. The southbound U.S. 31 to I-465 ramps are normally free-flowing, so it is imperative motorists are alerted to the signal and stop on red.

Motorists on northbound U.S. 31 entering westbound I-465 will need to be in the left lane after Friday night’s ramp shift. Crews will also open the new northbound U.S. 31 ramp to eastbound I-465 on Friday night.

On Thursday night at 9 p.m., crews will restrict the far right lane of northbound U.S. 31 from 96th Street to just north of I-465 for barrier wall removal and lane striping. This lane restriction is expected to end by 6 a.m. Friday and will repeat on Friday night.

On Friday night, crews will close one right-turn lane from westbound 96th Street to northbound U.S. 31. This lane closure is expected to last approximately 60 days.
