[GOV] Day 3: Governor Pence Continues Jobs Trip; Announces More German Investment in Indiana
Start Date: 4/16/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 4/16/2014
Entry Description

BERLIN– Governor Mike Pence spent the day in Hanover and Berlin meeting with German business executives and announcing more results of the state’s increased efforts to attract German investment to the Hoosier State.

This morning, the Governor joined leaders of the Jäger Group, a supplier of rubber, plastics and metal components and subsystems, at the company’s global headquarters in Hanover. During his visit, Arnold Jäger and the third generation of the Jäger family, brothers Andreas and Marius-Quintus, informed the Governor of the automotive supplier’s decision to invest $4.5 million to expand the operations of its subsidiary Jaeger-Unitek Sealing Solutions in La Porte, Ind., adding more than 50 new jobs.

“I am encouraged for the future of Indiana with the successful meetings we have already held in just a few days’ time here in Germany,” said Pence. “From learning more about Germany’s distinguished workforce development initiatives to the news of new Indiana jobs, we are gaining knowledge of what Indiana can do to build upon its established position as a leading location for foreign direct investment. German companies like Jäger Group and NORRES can thrive in the Hoosier State. Indiana’s message—that Indiana is a state that works—resounds here in Germany, a country with strong business and cultural bonds to all corners of Indiana.”

Jäger’s decision comes on the heels of the announcement by NORRES yesterday that it will also expand in Indiana. The Gelsenkirchen, Germany-based industrial hose manufacturer will invest $1.87 million to locate its first North American facility in South Bend, Ind., creating more than 30 new jobs over the next few years. Both companies noted Indiana’s distinct advantages in location and infrastructure. Known as the Crossroads of America, Indiana is centrally located within a half-day’s drive of more than 20 major metropolitan markets and has more intersecting interstate highways than anywhere else in the country.

In addition, the Governor expressed Indiana’s renewed commitment to strengthening the state’s economic ties with Germany at a Friends of Indiana reception in Berlin this afternoon. The reception was expected to draw more than 100 German business and government leaders. The Governor’s remarks can be found here:
