[ISP] Results for Joint Agency Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Effort

Vigo County—In the ongoing effort to ensure Indiana roadways remain some of the safest in the nation, Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Inspectors from the Putnamville District, along with Safety Investigators from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, conducted a joint-agency commercial vehicle enforcement project at the Indiana State Police Scale Facility located on Interstate 70 near the Indiana/Illinois state line. The project began at 6:00a.m. on March 31, and continued through 6:00p.m. on April 2. Officers were targeting unsafe motor carriers, driver inspections, and vehicles hauling hazardous materials.

The following statistics were compiled:

Traffic Citations Issued 18
Traffic Warnings Issued 22
Truck Citations Issued 18
Hazardous Material Violations 28
Motor Vehicle Inspections Conducted 64
Total Enforcement Contacts (Tickets, Warnings, Inspections) 104

A total of five drivers were placed out of service; one with a false log book, two with hours of service violations, and two for not having the proper commercial driver’s license for the vehicle they were operating. Fifteen vehicles were placed out of service for unsafe equipment and ten vehicles were found overweight with the driver’s cited, and finally, one carrier was stopped and cited for operating in violation of a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Operational Out of Service. Other drivers were cited or warned for miscellaneous registration and equipment violations. The hazardous material violations consisted of driver, equipment and placard violations with no danger to the general public.

Participating officers were Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Inspectors, Supervisor Cindy Gray, Tom Cole, and Ron Anglin, along with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Inspectors Robert White and Mark Palmer.
