[ISP] Area Agencies Battle Identity Theft With “Shred Day”
Start Date: 3/5/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 3/5/2014
Entry Description
(Fort Wayne, IN) – Identity theft has been identified as the fastest growing crime in the 21st century, and as such, the Indiana State Police works diligently with agencies like the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana (BBB) in efforts to combat this growing crime.

As a proactive effort, the State Police will join forces with the U.S. Postal Inspectors, the BBB and 3Rivers Federal Credit Union in a “Shred Day” to be held on Thursday, March 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A mobile shredder will be provided by Iron Mountain Incorporated in the parking lot of 3Rivers Federal Credit Union located at 1615 Northland Boulevard in Fort Wayne, for the public to bring unused or unwanted papers, credit cards, or other such materials that contain personal information to be destroyed free of charge. Iron Mountain is not able to take plastic or metal items, but paper clips and binders are acceptable.

“The nature of this crime and the effect it can have on its victims makes it even more important to shred personal information, even those papers or labels that may seem harmless, ,” said Andrew Gottfried, U.S. Postal Inspector. “Identity thieves have no scruples in what they can and will do. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, BBB, 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, Iron Mountain and the Indiana State Police hope that “Shred Day” serves as a reminder of its importance because dumpster divers truly do exist and it’s up to you to be proactive.”
There will be identity theft and fraud related materials available at 3Rivers Federal Credit Union on Wednesday, March 5th from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
