Entry Description
STATEHOUSE — State Representative Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) authored a House resolution honoring Terrin Thomas, the current reigning Miss Indiana from Auburn. Terrin’s parents, Joy and Guy Thomas, were also present for the resolution presented today in the House chamber.

Terrin is a graduate of DeKalb High School and currently lives in Bloomington where she attends Indiana University. She is majoring in broadcast journalism.

“I’ve had the privilege of knowing Terrin and her family for a number of years and have been able to watch her journey that led to her being our Hoosier representative in the 2013 Miss America Pageant last fall,” said Rep. Smaltz. “One of her most admirable achievements is that she is a real life role model for other young women, including my daughter Megan Olivia, who is seeking to follow in Terrin’s footsteps when she competes for the title of Miss Indiana Outstanding Teen later this year.”

Terrin is a junior at Indiana University, and she continues to serve her state as Miss Indiana and as a proponent of her personal platform, Service-Learning: connecting academics through volunteerism. She also serves as a Fueling Good Ambassador on behalf of Citgo gas stations where she speaks to schools across the state about the importance of community engagement. On campus, she keeps busy as a full-time student and as the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Bloomington Playwrights Project.

“Terrin has shown how to turn hard work into success,” said Rep. Smaltz. “She exemplifies how to set big goals and achieve them. I am truly honored to have her here at the Statehouse today.”

Miss Indiana and Miss Indiana's Outstanding Teen are official state pageants of the Miss America Organization, one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women.
