[r89] Rep. Kirchhofer builds more efficient workplaces
Start Date: 2/5/2014Start Time: 2:00 PM
Entry Description
State Representative Cindy Kirchhofer (R-Beech Grove) has authored two bills, House Bill (HB) 1045 and HB 1229, that passed through the House during the first half of session. HB 1045 revises the definition of the practice of occupational therapy in order to increase communication in the medical field. HB 1229 aids in combining three township fire departments (Decatur, Pike, Wayne) in Marion County with the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) to create a more accessible emergency service operation.

“With the modernized language in both bills, more efficient workplaces will be seen in both Marion County and the rest of Indiana,” said Rep. Kirchhofer. “These bills aim to update and reflect the current practices within organizations today while creating a better line of communication between professionals.”

The definition of occupational therapists has not been updated in 23 years. Rep. Kirchhofer aims to bring the language up to date so the medical workplace can become more connected, more efficient, and can ultimately lead to more personalized treatment plans. HB 1045 will increase efficiency within the medical field by helping to better align the OT practices with others across the country. This bill passed unanimously.

Presently, there are three townships within Marion County that are separate from the IFD. With HB 1229, these fire stations would become a part of the IFD, streamlining the county’s emergency services through more efficient communication. HB 1229 aims at saving money and creating faster response times, increasing the overall safety of Marion County.

“A fire can grow twice in size every two minutes. It is the utmost importance that firefighters have a clear line of communication to do their job successfully. HB 1229 will help Indianapolis and all of Marion County by increasing efficiency and creating smoother operations while allowing these services to utilize all of their resources,” said Rep. Kirchhofer.
