[ISP] Police Search Lake Charles
Start Date: 1/29/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/29/2014
Entry Description

Porter, IN-On January 23, 2014, members of the Indiana State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division at Lowell conducted a search operation on Lake Charles in the Town of Porter, Indiana. This was part of an ongoing missing person’s case involving Teleka Patrick. Ms. Patrick was reported missing in Kalamazoo County Michigan in early December, 2013. ISP has been assisting the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department since the time she was reported missing. . Patrick’s gold 1997 Lexus ES300 was found abandoned by an Indiana State Trooper late Thursday, December 5th, 2013, night on I-94 west bound just east of the Porter/Burns Harbor exit which is adjacent to Lake Charles.

Members of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department, and the Kalamazoo office of the FBI all assisted in the detail.

The Washtenaw County Sherriff’s Department in Michigan has a specialized team that is able to conduct searches in the water, under the ice. This is done by using a very advanced and sophisticated sonar equipment system. A series of holes in a grid pattern were drilled threw the ice. The sonar was placed into each of the 55 holes. Data was then sent to a central computer on site. The data collected will allow for a completed and detail map of the lake.

While searching for any evidence or clues that would assist in the investigation, the sonar search did not indicate anything of evidentiary value.

We would like to give a special thanks to the folks at the BASS PRO Shop located on I-94 in Portage, Indiana. They loaned ISP a 10 inch gas powered ice auger to assist in this detail.
Due to the large number of holes that were drilled, this equipment was crucial: without it this task would have been almost impossible
