[INDOT - East Central] Cold Weather Pattern Brings Another Clipper System, Strong Winds

Cold Weather Pattern Brings Another Clipper System and Strong Winds

INDIANAPOLIS – Another clipper system is crossing the state today expected to drop about an inch of new snow on East Central Indiana before midnight. Strong sustained winds and gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected to cause blowing and drifting on roadways, lowering visibility and making driving difficult.

INDOT crews are beginning patrols ahead of predicted snowfall, and will plow and treat interstates, U.S. highways and state routes as needed to ensure roadway conditions remain as safe as possible during winter weather.

Cold temperatures and periods of snowfall are expected to continue for several days and into next week. Motorists should be aware of local developing forecasts and be prepared for weather conditions before driving.

If driving in inclement weather, slow down and adjust behaviors to the conditions encountered on the road. Crashes, slide offs and traffic backups prevent INDOT trucks from plowing and treating routes on a regular schedule of every 2-3 hours, and jeopardize the safety of other motorists.

The Indiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies encourage the public to keep its phone lines open for emergencies and to access road conditions at http://indot.carsprogram.org/ or by dialing toll-free 800-261-ROAD (7623).
