[ISP] 3 Vehicle Crash in DeKalb Co. Leaves Kendalville Man Dead
Start Date: 1/21/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/21/2014
Entry Description
(DeKalb County)-The Indiana State Police is investigating a three vehicle crash that occurred earlier this morning on County Road 427 at County Road 50, which is just south of Auburn, that claimed the life of a 20 year old man from Kendallville.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Poe revealed that at approximately 10:15 a.m., a 2009 International dump truck with a snow plow attached, driven by 57 year old Steven A. Westrick of rural Auburn, was traveling eastbound on County Road 50 when it purportedly slid on the snowy and icy roadway and into the intersection with County Road 427. The plow struck a southbound 1997 Volvo semi tractor pulling a covered trailer that was hauling a load of metal driven by 38 year old Daniel Lee Crowell of Lima, Ohio.

As a result of that collision, the semi tractor trailer jackknifed and went left of center before it struck a northbound 2001 Dodge pickup truck driven by 20 year old Kenneth Garth Lindley II of Kendallville. Lindley was pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office. Both Westrick and Crowell were not injured in the crash. County Road 427 was closed at County Road 50 for about five hours as Troopers conducted their investigation and crews worked to clear the area of the multitude of debris. At 3:30 p.m., County Road 427 was re-opened to normal traffic flow.

Assisting at the scene were the DeKalb County Sheriff Department, the Auburn Police Department, the Jackson Township Fire Department and the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office.
