[ISP] Overturned Semi Slows Interstate Traffic for over 13 Hours
Start Date: 1/6/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/6/2014
Entry Description

Bartholomew County: This morning just after midnight a northbound semi overturned on I-65 near the Columbus exit on I-65 causing lane blockage and traffic disruption for over 13 hours. According to Trooper Matt Holley, just past midnight a 2013 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer loaded with coffee and driven by 31 year old Geofrey Simiyu Wepukhulu of Anaheim, CA was northbound on I-65 near the 68 mile marker when he lost control of the semi on the snow and ice covered roadway. The semi overturned landing on the driver’s side and blocked both northbound lanes of I-65. Troopers managed to get the right lane opened to allow traffic to pass but the semi had to be offloaded before wreckers could upright it and re-open the interstate. The interstate was finally re-opened at about 1:30 this afternoon. Wepukhulu was not injured. Tpr. Holley was assisted at the scene by Columbus Police Department.
