Clay County-On Wednesday evening, January 1, at 10:45, an alert employee of the Petro Travel Center located along Interstate 70 at exit 23, noticed what appeared to be an intoxicated male in the business. The employee notified Indiana State Police as the male was leaving. Moments later, Indiana State Police Master Trooper Todd Brown and Trooper Ian Portteus located the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on State Road 59 near Ashboro, just south of the travel center. The 1992 Ford F150 was operating erratically and well below the posted speed limit. The vehicle was stopped and the driver displayed classic signs of intoxication. He was transported to the Clay County Justice Center where he tested .19% BAC. A search of his vehicle revealed approximately three grams of suspected cocaine.
