[ISP] Two Meth Labs Found in Muncie
Start Date: 1/13/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/13/2014
Entry Description
Muncie – Early this afternoon the Pendleton District Meth Squad was contacted by a landlord in Muncie who had found a possible meth lab. He had found the suspicious items while cleaning out a house where a fire had occurred earlier in the day. The residents of the home had fled the area before the fire department had arrived.

Meth team members arrived at 310 N. Elm St. and found the remnants of a meth lab in the burned home. While at the home they received a tip that the tenants of the home were hiding out in an attic of another home just around the corner.

After obtaining a search warrant troopers searched the residence at 404 E. Gilbert St. where they found Rhea Szarka, age 38, and Brian Graham, age 33, hiding in an attic space. The two had cut a hole in an interior wall to access a space between a ceiling and floor. Also in that space with them were items used in the manufacture of Methamphetamine.

Szarka was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Class “B” Felony; Possession of the Precursors Used to Manufacture Methamphetamine, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, both Class “D” Felonies.

Graham was not charged at this time and was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Indianapolis for burns he had received in the fire earlier in the day. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges could be filed.

Members of the Meth Squad were assisted by the Delaware County Drug Task Force, the Muncie City Police Department and the Muncie Fire and EMS Departments. Anyone with information about illegal drug use may call the Pendleton Post at 1-800-527-4752, or the Indiana State Police Drug Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756. Tips can be made and kept anonymous.

The Indiana Meth Investigation System or IMIS, can also take tips on meth labs. Just go to www.meth.in.gov and click on the “Report Suspected Meth Activity” Link. Also available on the meth site is information regarding meth statistics, meth lab cleanup, educational videos and materials about meth manufacturing and addiction.
