Start Date: 1/6/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 1/6/2014
Entry Description
Vigo County-On Sunday evening, January 5th, at 9:13, Indiana State Police responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash involving a trooper on Interstate 70 westbound near the 12 mile marker. The crash injured one driver and resulted in no injuries to the trooper or other driver.

Preliminary investigation revealed Trooper Mike Finney was in the passing lane with his emergency lights activated assisting a stranded motorist. A 1996 Freightliner tractor pulling a box trailer and driven by David Fait, age 55, of Dover, Ohio could not stop or slow in time and veered into the median to avoid striking the ISP vehicle and the stranded motorist. A second tractor, 2005 Freightliner pulling a box trailer and driven by Bakary Kourouma, age 58, of New York, New York also failed to slow or stop and first struck the ISP vehicle and then the trailer of the Fait semi. Kourouma was trapped in the vehicle and extricated by members of the Riley Fire/Rescue Department. Kourouma was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Trans Care Ambulance Service for treatment of possible fractures to extremities.

David Fait drove for Vision Express of Ohio and Kourouma drove for Ki Ki GEH of Moore, Oklahoma.
Kourouma was cited for reckless driving.

Trooper Mike Finney and driver David Fait were not injured.

The crash was investigated by ISP Sergeant Chris Wright. Assisting were ISP Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald and Troopers Jim Cruse and David Petrowski.

Interstate 70 westbound was reopened around 1:00 this morning.
