The Bear High Wolf Lake Regional Sewer District (district) is responsible for managing sewers in its territory in Noble County. The district was established by an order issued in 1996 by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) in response to a petition received by IDEM from Noble County officials. At the request of the county officials, the order provided for elections and appointments to be used to fill board vacancies. The district has recently proposed for IDEM to change the order to provide for appointments only, made by the Noble County commissioners. IDEM is seeking public comments on the proposal.

The public is invited to an informational meeting being held by the district at 6 p.m. (local time), Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Bear High Wolf Lake Regional Sewer District facilities, 4477 West H Drive, in Albion. Residents who attend the meeting will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with district representatives concerning the proposal. IDEM will be holding a formal public hearing immediately following the public meeting, at which time a transcriptionist will record oral statements from individuals who wish to speak on the record about the proposed change.

IDEM will also be accepting written comments through Tuesday, April 16, 2013.  Individuals who are not able to attend the public hearing or prefer to submit comments in writing may send them to:

Mrs. Lynne Newlon

Office of Water Quality

Indiana Department of Environmental Management

100 North Senate Ave., IGCN-1255

Indianapolis, Indiana 46204

Individuals who do not wish to comment but want to receive notice of IDEM’s final decision, may send a request in writing to the above address.

The public may view a copy of the petition to modify the order at the Bloom Gates & Whiteleather, LLP Law firm, 119 S. Main Street, in Columbia City, or, electronically, on the IDEM website at www.in.gov/idem/files/notice_20130417_rsd_bear_high_petition.pdf.

IDEM will consider public comments prior to making a final recommendation on the proposed change.
