Entry Description
Liberty – This morning at 10:00, a crash involving a pickup truck and a semi sent a Liberty man to the hospital. Kyle Higgs, age 20, was injured when his south bound 2006 GMC pickup, pulling a 10 ft. utility trailer, crossed the center line into the path of a north bound 2007 Volvo semi in the area of Glade Montgomery Rd. on U.S. 27 just north of Liberty.
The driver of the semi, Bradley Schultetus, age 31of Hudsonville Michigan, was uninjured. A passenger in the GMC pickup, Eddie Jeffries, age18, was also uninjured. Airbags did deploy in the truck. U.S. 27 was closed for over an hour while Troopers Eric Thumb and Jeff Culley investigated the crash. They were assisted by the Union County Sheriff’s Department and Union County EMS.
Higgs had been stopped and cited by Trooper Culley on US 27 just north of the crash scene 10 minutes before the crash for following too closely, a leading cause of crashes in Indiana. Left of Center is also a leading cause of serious crashes. The Indiana State Police remain committed to reducing crashes and patrolling in high crash areas. We continue to monitor the top causes for crashes, and concentrating enforcement efforts on these causes.
