Entry Description
Indianapolis, IN- This afternoon, March 7th, at 2:29 p.m., Indiana State Police responded to the report of a pedestrian struck on I-65 SB at the 111 mm. (Washington Street)
Preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed that a white male walked WB across I-65 and stopped in the middle of three lanes SB. Jonathan Schiewer, 24, of Indianapolis was operating a 2004 Ford Econoline van SB I-65 and was unable to avoid striking the male.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
Schiewer is cooperating fully with the investigation and tested .00% BAC. Investigators will rely on the coroner’s report to determine if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
No charges are anticipated to be filed against Schiewer.
The pedestrian has been identified as Thomas W. Roll, 53, of Indianapolis. The family has been notified.
Investigating Officer: Trooper Stephon Mason, Lieutenant Jon Smithers, Captain Bob Burke, Sergeant Jason Miller, Indiana State Police.
Assisting Agencies: Indiana Department of Transportation, Marion County Coroner’s Office.
