Vigo County—A veteran Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigator was recognized at the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office Awards Banquet held this past Saturday evening at the Idle Creek Banquet Center.

Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing presented the award to ISP Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald in “recognition for his efforts and assistance to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office” in the November 2012 murder investigation of Allyson Lewis. The murder was believed to be committed by her husband with her body disposed in rural eastern Vigo County. The husband is currently incarcerated awaiting trial.

Sergeant Fitzgerald was credited with spending nearly 140 hours criminal investigation hours processing and evaluating hundreds of items for potential evidentiary value, which included multiple locations and vehicles; ultimately leading to the arrest of a suspect.

ISP First Sergeant Steven Knapp, Crime Scene Investigations Field Supervisor, stated, “Kris is a tireless worker and can always be depended on to accomplish his mission at the highest level and instilling great confidence in his efforts. His dedication in the service of his community and to his fellow law enforcement partners should be commended.”

Sergeant Fitzgerald is 12-year veteran of the ISP and has served as a Crime Scene Investigator for 3 ½-years. Fitzgerald is assigned to the Putnamville Post. He and his family reside in rural Vigo County.
