[INDOT] US 6 Traffic to Route onto Runarounds in Elkhart County

Entry Description
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces US 6 traffic in both directions will be routed over the newly constructed Blue Ditch and Kiefer Ditch temporary runarounds, starting Thursday, February 14, weather permitting. The purpose of these paved runarounds is to allow construction of small structures over the two ditches along US 6 without closing the road.

The Blue Ditch runaround is located between CR 43 and US 33/SR 13, near the Elkhart/Noble County line. The Kiefer Ditch runaround is located between CR 25 and CR 127, approximately 2 miles east of SR 15 in Elkhart County.

The runarounds have 12-ft. travel lanes and 4-ft. paved shoulders, and will be in use 24/7. There will be weight and length limits in place for the runarounds, and the media is expected to be updated on these figures by end of the day on February 14, prior to the actual rerouting of traffic. An advisory speed limit of 45 mph will be in place for the runarounds. US 6 traffic will use the runarounds until replacement of the small structures is completed in late summer 2013.

The project was awarded to Pioneer, based on the low bid of $1.4 million.
