Entry Description
Lake County, Crown Point-A semi driver “blacked out” and hit an interstate sign before rolling-over onto its side.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., today, Tuesday, February 5th, First Sergeant Terrance Weems responded to a semi that rolled over onto its side on I-65 north bound approximately ½ mile south of the Crown Point exit. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Volvo semi pulling a box trailer, driven by David Westerhouse, 45 of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, was in the right lane when he stated he “blacked out”.
The semi left the roadway to the right, hit an interstate sign for the Crown Point exit. The semi and trailer then overturned onto its driver’s side and slid for approximately 200 feet before coming to rest off the roadway. The semi was loaded with 35,000 pounds of general merchandise. No load was loss, but the semi will have to be off-loaded before it can be uprighted.
Westerhouse stated he was not injured but was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point to be checked out since he “blacked out”.
Westerhouse was cited for Unsafe Lane Movement.
