OHIO RIVER BRIDGES PROJECT PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE FOR DOWNTOWN CROSSING

Public invited to October 24 event in Jeffersonville

Residents can learn more about the construction underway for the Downtown Crossing, find out about upcoming traffic impacts and ask questions at an open house Thursday, October 24, at Kye’s, 500 Missouri Avenue in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The open house, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., will offer residents a chance to view displays, talk one-on-one with project leaders, see a presentation on the work already underway and the work to come and ask questions of officials from the Walsh Design Build Team, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC).

A presentation featuring project managers with KYTC, INDOT and Walsh Construction is planned for 6 p.m.

The Downtown Crossing includes building a new I-65 bridge for northbound only traffic, revamping the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge to carry southbound I-65 traffic and rebuilding the interchange approaches on both sides of the river.

Ground was broken on the Downtown Crossing on June 18 and construction started in earnest in July. When work is complete, the new bridge will carry six lanes of northbound I-65 traffic and the Kennedy Bridge will carry six lanes of southbound I-65 traffic. The entire project is scheduled for completion in December 2016.
