[r82] Kendallville has lost someone dear
Start Date: 1/18/2013 All Day
End Date: 1/18/2013
Entry Description

Sunday, I was saddened at the loss of a dear Kendallville community member named Don Moore.  His passion for life was almost tangible, and his constant optimism and humor inspired countless peoples’ lives touching everyone he came in contact with.

I am humbled to have known him; encouraged by his example, moved by his legacy and saddened by his loss. With each breath he utilized every ounce of life, and I know those who possess memories of such a profound and versatile individual will cherish them forever.

Speaking with Don on several occasions was insight into the remarkable life he lived. He was an Army intelligence analyst Vietnam Veteran and proudly served the United States. He owned two small businesses known as Don Moore Productions and Minuteman Mowing Services.

Don served as General Manager and radio personality of WAWK radio stations 1140 AM and 95.5 FM that broadcasted all over Noble County. Don enthusiastically covered county fairs, demolition derbies, parades and gatherings. In fact, if there was an event in the community, his humorous broadcasts were always present and enjoyed by everyone.

One thing I remember about Don is that he always went the extra-mile. For example, when the Bixler Lake Park Fourth of July fireworks show was dissolving, Don raised $8,000 alone for several years to keep the event going. This is one example of many selfless expressions that earned Don the title of Kendallville Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1998.

Among many great things, Don is also remembered as financial expert, predominant businessman and reliable public servant. His incredible knowledge and leadership could be observed by the many organizations he was a part of. To mention just a few, Don served as the Noble County Council president, past Chamber of Commerce president, Downtown Kendallville Merchants president and was the Commander of the American Legion Post #86.

Don saw a positive outcome to every problem and put himself in others’ shoes. He cared for everyone and put their needs before his own. I hope that by providing some insight into Don’s life will show everyone just how important he was to the community. Don will be greatly missed.
