[ISP] Four Fort Wayne Troopers Reach Career Milestone 25 Years of Service

Entry Description

Fort Wayne, IN-Four troopers assigned to the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne recently observed their 25 years of service to the Department and to the citizens of Indiana. Each was a member of the 45th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy which graduated on December 19, 1987.

• Detective Kevin W. Smith who is originally from Syracuse, Indiana, is a 1983 graduate of Wawasee High School. Smith was accepted to the 45th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in the summer of 1987 and was appointed to the Department on December 19, 1987. He was assigned to patrol duties at the Toll Road post and in March of 1991, he transferred to the Fort Wayne post where he assumed patrol duties in Steuben County until 1994 when he transferred to the Laboratory Division as a Crime Scene Technician. In 1996, Smith returned to road patrol duties and also in that same year, he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University.

In June of 2005, Smith was promoted to the rank of Detective and currently serves in that capacity in the Criminal Investigation Division at the Fort Wayne post. He and his wife Gina have two daughters, Hanna (19) and Molly (14) and are residents of rural Angola.

• Sergeant Kathy J. Robbins who is originally from rural Albion, Indiana is a 1980 graduate of Central Noble High School. Robbins was accepted to the 45th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in the summer of 1987 and was appointed to the Department on December 19, 1987. She was assigned to patrol duties at the Toll Road post and in 1990 she transferred to the Fort Wayne post and assumed patrol duties in both LaGrange and Noble Counties.

In October of 1992, Robbins was reassigned as a Detective and in 1997, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and became the Criminal Investigative Squad Leader, the position that she currently holds in the Criminal Investigation Division at the Fort Wayne Post. She has a step-son, Brian, who is a Trooper assigned to the Bremen post and she and her husband Gary are residents of rural Albion.

• Sergeant Max C. Weber who is originally from Albion, Indiana is a 1983 graduate of Central Noble High School. Weber was accepted to the 45th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in the summer of 1987 and was appointed to the Department on December 19, 1987. He was assigned to patrol duties at the Toll Road post and in March of 1990, he transferred to the Fort Wayne post and assumed patrol duties in both Noble and LaGrange Counties.

Weber served for a short time in the Laboratory Division as a Crime Scene Technician and for four years at the rank of Corporal as a District Duty Officer in Fort Wayne. In 2004, Weber was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and currently holds that rank as he supervises the troopers assigned to both Noble and DeKalb Counties. In 2007, he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business Management from Concordia University, Wisconsin. He and his wife Cindy have three daughters, Sarah, Carrie and Emily and are residents of Albion.

• Sergeant Tony W. Knox who is originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana is a 1983 graduate of North Side High School. He was accepted to the 45th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in the summer of 1987 and was appointed to the Department on December 19, 1987. He was assigned to the Fort Wayne post where he assumed patrol duties in DeKalb County. In 1989, Knox worked in an undercover capacity for one year before becoming a Drug Dog Handler for the next four years. In 1994, Knox returned to road patrol duties in Noble County before transferring to those same duties in Steuben and DeKalb Counties.

In 1996, Knox was promoted to the rank of Corporal and served as a District Duty Officer before being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1998. In his time as a Sergeant, he has supervised troopers in Adams, DeKalb and Wells Counties. In 2006, Knox became the Patrol K-9 Program Coordinator for the Indiana State Police, a position that he currently holds. During his career, Knox has served as a Defensive Tactics and PPCT instructor, a member of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, a member of Operation Hoosier Relieve (Hurricane Katrina), and is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.

Knox and his wife Toni have two daughters, Taylor who is a senior at DeKalb High School and Taytum who is a freshman at DeKalb High School, and they are residents of rural Auburn.
