Entry Description
State Sen. Brandt Hershman (R-Buck Creek) made the following statement today in response to Gov. Mike Pence’s State of the State Address:
STATEHOUSE (Jan. 22, 2013) — “Budget-writing sessions are always time intensive, as lawmakers from both parties and across Indiana must work together to develop a financial plan — not only to fund essential services but also maintain our leadership in fiscal responsibility and economic development.
“We’ve accomplished a great deal in terms of making Indiana more competitive for job growth in recent years. We need to continue those efforts and do so in a fiscally responsible way. We’ve got to encourage job creation by creating policies that are not only beneficial to local employers and small businesses — encouraging them to expand — but are also inviting to businesses nationwide and worldwide. We want Indiana to be the destination of choice for every new job that’s created in the United States.
“At the same time, we should avoid burdens to taxpayers. We have to be cautious with any spending increases. Hoosiers need their elected officials to commit to guiding Indiana in a manner that will benefit our state for generations to come. I think Governor Pence has laid out a good start for this year’s budget. I’m looking forward to working with him and legislators from both parties to try and do what is in the best interest for Hoosier families in the state of Indiana.”
