Indiana Department of Transportation engineers met with contractors and utility companies this morning to prepare for a $1,658,000 Major Moves project that will improve intersections and add turn lanes along U.S. Highway 52/Brookville Road in Marion and Hancock Counties. 

Traffic flow and motorist safety at the U.S. 52 intersection with Bade Road (from the north) and Davis Road (from the south)—located 2.5 miles southeast of Interstate 465—will be significantly improved by 2013 construction that will add both eastbound and westbound left turn lanes while moderating turning radii.

Further east—within Hancock County—Brookville Road at C.R. 700 West will be widened to accommodate eastbound right and left turn lanes, a westbound left turn lane and modified turning radii at corners.  A new traffic signal will also be installed.

At both U.S. 52 intersections, existing highway lanes and approaches from county roads will be milled and resurfaced.

Eight utilities in the U.S. 52 right-of-way plan to begin relocating services in early February—clearing the way for actual road construction to start in the late spring.  INDOT anticipates maintaining traffic on U.S. 52 and Bade and Davis Roads with reduced speed limits.  C.R. 700W construction will require closures.
