STATEHOUSE (Jan. 17, 2012) — State Sen. Randy Head (R-Logansport) welcomed members of a Chinese education delegation to the Indiana Statehouse today.

Education officials from the Zhejiang Province of China toured the Statehouse and attended the State Senate’s session this morning with Head and Logansport school superintendents. This visit is part of an effort to develop sister school relationships between Logansport and Zhejiang.

“Last summer, I was part of Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman’s trade delegation to China,” Head said. “Since that trip, Logansport and the Zhejiang Province have explored sister city agreements and trade partnerships. Creating sister school relationships would be a continuation of those goals.”

Earlier this week, Zhejiang delegation members toured Logansport schools to meet students and administrators. On Wednesday, Zhejiang educators signed memoranda of understanding with schools in the Logansport Community School Corporation, beginning what is expected to be a cultural exchange program between the two cities.

“This is a great opportunity for the students of Logansport,” Head said. “Through this sister school agreement, they would be able to develop friendships with students in another country and gain a broader perspective of the world around them. I am hopeful this will be a mutually beneficial relationship.”

Seven Logansport schools are a part of this sister school agreement, including  Logansport High School, Columbia Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, Fairview Elementary, Landis Elementary, Columbia Elementary and Franklin Elementary.
