Entry Description
Indianapolis, IN- Early this morning at approximately 6:45 a.m., Indiana State Police responded to a personnel injury crash on I-65 NB at the 87.5mm that injured the driver of a dump truck.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Mark V. Hines, 44, of Edinburgh, was operating a 1996 Mack dump truck, pulling a sixty foot flat bed trailer, NB on I-65 in the right lane. For a reason unknown to the driver, the dump bed was fully extended and struck the Greensburg Road overpass as the truck passed underneath causing the truck to roll over.
Hines was transported to Methodist Hospital by Seals Medic to be treated for head injuries. Investigating Trooper Hank Kalina said it appeared Hines was not wearing the safety belt.
I-65 NB traffic was moved to the shoulder around the crash scene. Traffic was affected for 2.5 hours while the crash was investigated and HAZ-MAT emergency workers recovered spilled diesel fuel.
The overpass was inspected by Indiana Department of Transportation bridge inspectors and found to be structurally sound.
